Dr. Felecia M. Nave is Alcorn State University’s 20th President and first female president in the school’s nearly 150-year history. Dr. Nave graduated cum laude from Alcorn in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She went on to earn her master’s in chemical and environmental engineering and her doctorate in engineering, both from the University of Toledo. She has since spent 18 years as an innovative educator and leader in complex collegiate environments.
Dr. Nave serves as the chief executive officer of Alcorn, the nation’s oldest public land-grant HBCU, located in Lorman, Mississippi, with branch locations in Natchez and Vicksburg, Mississippi. The university currently enrolls 3,300 students from 18 countries and provides 46-degree tracks for undergraduate and graduate programs. Dr. Nave has dedicated her professional career to serving at HBCUs which has given her a diverse perspective and broad understanding of HBCU culture and tradition.
An Alcorn legacy, Dr. Nave is personally and professionally invested in Alcorn’s mission to develop well-rounded future leaders of high character who can be successful in the global marketplace. Her expertise in higher education, combined with her commitment to Alcorn, allows her to strengthen current programs while moving the university forward.
This start of this presidency closely precedes Alcorn’s historic 150th year. Dr. Nave values the unique opportunity to lead the community during this particular moment in time. In the next 150 years, Dr. Nave envisions Alcorn as a leader amongst the nation’s elite HBCUs and is committed to developing, supporting, and sustaining programs that ensure the university’s success.
A grounded and collaborative leader, Dr. Nave is committed to planning and resource alignment, shared governance, a student-centered approach, and a commitment to the professional development of the campus community. From attending Alcorn football games to advocating for upgrades in infrastructure, Dr. Nave works relentlessly to create a positive campus experience for all students.
Dr. Nave and her husband met at Alcorn as undergraduate students. They are the proud parents of four children: Jaylon, Justin, Kennedy, and Jonathan.
