Welcome to Charlotte

The 2018 LEAD Conference & Awards will be held at the beautiful Gastonia Conference Center just west of Charlotte, NC. Stay an extra day or two and enjoy your time in the area!

The Charlotte metro area is home to just under 2.5 million people, and it has a lot to offer visitors. Charlotte’s downtown area (referred to as “Uptown”) is home to the Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Panthers, and the EpiCenter, and is bustling with growth and an expanding “foodie” scene. Johnson C. Smith University also calls Charlotte home.

Charlotte is home to some great museums, including The Harvey B. Gantt Center for African-American Arts + Culture, the Levine Museum of the New South, the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, and the Mint Museum. Ballet, opera, and theater can also be found here. Discovery Place in Uptown offers hands-on science displays and activities for kids of all ages.

Sports fans can take in basketball, football, or soccer, or visit the U.S. National Whitewater Center. Racing fans can tour the NASCAR Hall of Fame or visit Charlotte Motor Speedway. Prefer a quiet interlude? Visit the Carolina Raptor Center in Huntersville, go hiking at Crowder’s Mountain State Park, or visit Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens.
