Get ready for the 2018 HBCUgrow LEAD Conference & Awards! This year’s event will be held on November 15 just outside Charlotte, NC at the beautiful Gastonia Conference Center. Individual and group tickets are available.
8:15 – 8:45a Registration
8:45 – 9:50a Student Lifecycles
Today more than ever, higher education institutions cannot afford to be either passive or reactive to changing circumstances. Rising costs, less predictable funding streams and increased competition for students all require colleges and universities to become more focused and intentional when it comes to planning for the future.
An important part of that future planning must focus on effectively recruiting and retaining a student body that aligns with the institution’s mission, while also preparing them for success in their personal and professional lives beyond graduation.
To best support students, it’s critical to understand students are on a journey. This journey touches all four pillars of student success: academic aptitude and learning, ability to pay for college, a feeling of belonging to the campus community, and a holistic sense of wellness that includes physical, mental and social well-being. A developmental approach is especially critical as the makeup of the American university student body has changed dramatically in the past decade becoming increasingly diverse.
Is your school ready to meet the challenge? Join Rose Martinelli and Malisha Richardson from Huron, and Jacque Powers, Interim Associate Vice Provost for Enrollment Management at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, to learn how your institution can improve efficiency and effectiveness in managing student success across your campus.
10 – 10:50a Student Recruiting Panel
The competition for students in higher education continues to increase. Join enrollment teams and marketing experts from Shaw University (Anthony Brooks), the University of District of Columbia (Dwight Sanchez), Universal (Don Bean), and Johnson C. Smith University (Vory Billups) as they field your questions on how they have achieved success.
11 – 11:50a Role of Alumni in Fundraising
When it comes to opening up the checkbook, HBCUs have historically struggled engaging alumni.
Bring your challenges and questions to our panelists, who have all seen success in this arena. Panelists include representatives from Grambling State University (Marc Newman), Tonya Taylor (The Gift Development Group), vitalink (Jeanne Frazer), and York Technical College (Marcus Burgess, formerly with Florida Memorial & Voorhees).
Noon – 1:45p Presidential Panel & Lunch
The Presidential Panel – a conference favorite – is back! Hear how Presidents are addressing challenges in the ever-changing HBCU higher-ed environment. Presidents, Chancellors, and C-level executives will field questions on enrollment management and other topics of interest from the audience. Come prepared to ask our panelists!
2 – 2:50 Digital Impact Panel
Technology continues to change at breakneck speed. Universities must stay current to avoid losing potential students to other institutions. Join panelists from Jackson State University (Spencer McClenty), Howard University (Dr. Tashni-Ann Dubroy), and AndiSites (Andrea Ferguson) to learn how they are managing the new digital landscape.
